Under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), the Australian Government provides up to $1,158 in dental benefits for eligible children aged 0 to 17 whose two-year benefit period begins in 2026. CDBS covers basic dental services across a period of over 2 calendar years, helping make dental care more accessible and affordable to eligible children. All independent dentists at Primary Dental provide dental services under the medicare CDBS and are committed to providing quality dental care that can help eligible families.

Is your child eligible for free kids dental?
If you receive a Government Benefit such as Family Tax Benefit Part A or other eligible payments from the government including: Youth Allowance ABSTUDY Disability Support Pension Parenting Payment Special Benefit Carer Payment Double Orphan Pension Veterans Children Education Scheme your child may qualify for the CDBS. Where are Primary Dental centres located?
Primary Dental centres are part of the ForHealth Group and are located within medical centres across Australia, offering convenient access to dental care in local communities. Dental services are provided by independent dental practitioners. Find your nearest Primary Dental centre using the location finder.
What can I expect at my child’s first dental visit?
Your child’s first dental visit will depend on their age and individual needs. A dental practitioner will gently examine their teeth and gums, assess their oral health and discuss any concerns. The appointment may also include advice on brushing, diet and preventive dental care. Any recommended treatment will be explained to the parent or guardian.
Does your dental centre bulk-bill dental services?
Eligible children aged 0 to 17 may receive bulk-billed dental services under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). A child may be eligible if they are eligible for Medicare and they, or their parent, carer or guardian, receive a relevant Australian Government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. Bulk-billing arrangements should be confirmed with your selected Primary Dental centre before treatment.
How much does my child’s dental treatment cost?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides up to $1,158 for eligible children whose two-year benefit period begins in 2026. The amount available depends on your child’s eligibility, benefit period and remaining balance. If treatment is not covered or exceeds the available benefit, additional costs may apply. Your dental practitioner will discuss treatment options and any applicable fees before proceeding.
What dental treatments are covered under the CDBS?
The CDBS covers eligible basic dental services, including examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions, subject to applicable restrictions and available benefits. Orthodontic and cosmetic dental treatments, and dental services provided in hospital, are not covered.
How can I check my child’s CDBS eligibility and balance?
You can check your child’s eligibility and remaining benefit balance by calling Medicare on 132 011. Your selected Primary Dental centre can also check eligibility and the remaining balance before treatment begins.
