Emergency Dental Services
When you need help outside office hours.
What is Emergency Dental Services?
Emergency dental care is designed to provide prompt support for urgent dental issues such as toothache, swelling, infection, broken teeth, dental trauma, lost fillings, or denture breakages. Dental pain can be stressful and disruptive. At Primary Dental, urgent dental concerns are supported as soon as possible, including same-day appointments where available. Treatment is guided by clinical assessment, triage, and a strong focus on patient comfort, safety, and clear next steps.

What to expect
1. Contact and triage
When you contact the clinic, the team will ask questions about your symptoms to determine urgency and help guide the safest appointment timeframe.
2. Clinical assessment
A dental professional will assess the problem, including reviewing symptoms and medical history. X-rays may be required to confirm the cause of pain or injury.
3. Immediate treatment or stabilisation
Where possible, the dentist will provide urgent care to relieve pain, manage infection, or stabilise the tooth. In some cases, a staged treatment plan may be recommended.
4. Follow-up and ongoing care
You’ll receive clear aftercare instructions and advice on next steps. Follow-up appointments may be recommended to ensure the issue is fully treated.

I’ve been to many dental centres in Sydney and I must say this is one of the best dental service I’ve experienced. The location is so convenient, only 2 min walk from Town Hall. Staffs are supper friendly and gentle. They also offer very affordable price and you can pay with afferpay or zippay, which is amazing! Will definitely be back!

I do enjoy the friendly and helpful staff, it’s makes all the difference. I will be the first to admit the dentist is my least favourite place to go however after my first visit for a general check up, I felt very confident and pleased with my appointment from Dr Brett Moore. He is compassionate and caring :)

FAQs
Can I be seen the same day for a dental emergency?
Urgent dental concerns are accommodated as soon as possible, including same-day appointments where available. Appointment availability can vary by centre, so contact your nearest Primary Dental location promptly.
What should I do if I have severe tooth pain?
Tooth pain can have many causes including decay, infection, trauma or gum disease. A clinical assessment is important to identify the cause and provide appropriate treatment. If pain is severe or worsening, contact your dental clinic as soon as possible.
Do I need an X-ray for emergency dental treatment?
In many cases, yes. X-rays help confirm the cause of pain, infection, or tooth damage and allow the dentist to recommend the safest and most suitable treatment.
What emergency treatments can a dentist provide?
Treatment depends on the diagnosis. Emergency care may include pain relief, infection management, temporary or permanent restorations, drainage where appropriate, stabilising a damaged tooth, or planning follow-up treatment such as a root canal or extraction.
What if my tooth is knocked out?
A knocked-out tooth requires urgent attention. If possible, gently place the tooth back into the socket or store it in milk or saliva and contact your dental clinic immediately. Prompt treatment improves the chance of saving the tooth.
I’m anxious — can you help with nervous patients?
Yes. Dental emergencies can feel overwhelming. The team will take a calm, supportive approach, explain each step clearly, and prioritise patient comfort throughout treatment.
